It surely sounds like an interesting idea (especially since the hardware 
is relatively cheap - at the moment, I'm working with Soekris boxes 
which work nicely, but obviously are in a different price range).
Do you have any specific information on availability and pricing of a 
"devel-kit" for those things? I mean, it seems somewhat unlikely to me 
that the boxes themselves have everything one needs to deploy a new OS 
on them. Time permitting, I'd be willing to play with it, but I really 
wouldn't want to have to reverse engineer half of the box just to find 
out how to copy the OS onto such a box. Finding the right drivers and 
getting them to work might be hard enough anyway...
