occasional logging freezes

Hello all, I've been seeing the occasional freeze of the logging system after the logs roll over into archive files. This seems to happen: 1) Version 7 and maybe very late version 6 2) long uptimes 3) multiple roll over archive events What I see is a new log file created with zero size and no events written. There is always plenty of spare memory / virtual disk and everything else works normally.
