I believe, not having csync2, it is possible to run rsync in a 
bidirectional mode. You don't have to have one single process in a 
master/slave configuration but start the rsync process based on file 
events on either system. That should not be very difficult. csync2 must 
have a mechanism to detect file events, and I doubt they reinvented the 
wheel, and has a central configuration base on how to react, e.g. its 
dialect to specify what to do on such events.

If you read the documentation of csync2 you find at the end they are 
referencing other synchronisation methods, one being rsync.
