After getting a hint for setting debug logging, I found the ISP is requesting CHAP authentication. So I put the credentials into chap-secrets but it seems to be the local pppd that refuses auth: Dec 20 13:47:25 forstgate2 pppd[11048]: rcvd [LCP ConfReq id=0x8e <mru 1492> <auth chap MD5> <magic 0x77826386>] Dec 20 13:47:25 forstgate2 pppd[11048]: No auth is possible Currently I am thinking about what could be missing - MD5?
