I don't know if there is a globally valid default. Maybe it should be 
on. I for once cannot do anything with ipv6 as my ISP does not offer it 
in bridge mode, so for me ipv6 is nothing but a royal nuisance. I guess 
we should make it easier to query the state of ipv6 and make it real 
easy to switch it on or off.
