Your script is close, but not quite :)

Here's the instructions in the book:

sed -ri Makefile.in \
     -e 's#-m build#& --no-isolation#'  \
     -e '/pip install/s#(ZENMAP|NDIFF)DIR\)/#&dist/*.whl#'


and your script:

     sed -i 's/-m build/& --no-isolation/' Makefile.in &&


I think the second expression might be the cause.
