The teacher Blau Araújo has noted that
mount -vt devpts devpts -o gid=5,mode=0620 $LFS/dev/pts
is the problem here.

He suggested to it change to
mount -v --bind /dev/pts $LFS/dev/pts

Doing so, it is _not_ necessary to test if it is a TTY.
