But it will be the latest versions of the books that users will want to
use.  Why would anybody bother to build older SysV-versions, knowing
that SysV has been abandoned by LFS and that there will be no follow-up?

The decision to drop SysV really caught me off-guard.  Especially since
I thought I had reason to believe that this would not happen.  I quote
from the discussion in October on BLFS-dev ("GNOME 49 and SysV systems..."):

This is something I definitely do NOT want to do.  The issue is with
Desktop Environments (DEs) not the system itself.  It appears to me that
the issue will not affect XFCE.  I'm not sure about lxqt.

It will take some time, but I think we may be able to come up with other
alternatives for the large DEs.

So, what's happened now can be seen as a rather unexpected u-turn, I
guess.  And I don't think that this will do the project or Linux
any good.  But I may be wrong - and life goes on...
