You received several constructive replies, so this doesn't seem a fair
assessment.

This thread and your offer will soon be forgotten.  So it might be
better to write a "Hint".  That way more users would profit from your
solution.  It would also offer a chance to review what was needed to
make hplip work for you and thus perhaps get to the (real) reason for
the problem.
