I've been wondering for a while now what the two dots in

meson setup .. \

might be good for. Perhaps everybody else knows but I don't and I
couldn't find an explanation in the books nor in the
meson-documentation. My tests suggest that they are not necessary,
meaning that the following forms would be equivalent:

meson setup .. \
meson setup \

So, _if_ the dots serve no other purpose than to fill space: wouldn't it
be better to leave them out? For reasons of clarity and simplicity?
Thanks.

Rainer
