Hello, why the utils of "Host System Requirements" are all little old?

I noticed that from the page:
http://lfs.ohmcoe.com/lfs/view/7.5/prologue/hostreqs.html

the requirements of host system are all low-version, e.g. GCC-4.1.2
and the page recommend that we use linux-2.6.32, but linux kernel is now
3.16
that me a bit confusing...

who can explain it?
