As has been mentioned before, there should not be spaces around the = sign. If you are somehow getting extra spaces when copying and pasting the command, there is probably a problem with the browser or whatever you are using to view the book, or you are reading some copy, such as from a mirror or perhaps a translation, that is faulty. Are you using the book directly from the linuxfromscratch.org site, or from somewhere else? > > second error > > when I run the command *mkdir -v $ LFS/tools > *in the line above it says you can not create directory because it > already exists but the bottom line says there is no directory or file, > now I copy and stick it without so write it should not receive errors > are you sure that the book is correct? > Yes, the book is correct. If $LFS is properly defined, and the directory (/mnt/lfs for example) does exist, that command works just fine. -- http://lists.linuxfromscratch.org/listinfo/lfs-chat FAQ: http://www.linuxfromscratch.org/blfs/faq.html Unsubscribe: See the above information page
