Coming out of lurker mode for a moment, I'd be interested in this, and
would go with option 2 as outlined by Archaic.

I have to confess to knowing little about implementing proper security at
the moment, but am definitely willing to learn. Going with a SLFS based on
option 2 looks like a good way to do it.
