Compiling kernel locks system.

I'm running LFS/BLFS 12.4 and built a mid-release LFS (r12.4-47-systemd) 
but can't compile a kernel.  Everything goes well through chapter 9 but 
compiling the kernel is quite slow and eventually locks my box.  I've no 
choice but to power down.

I can compile a 6.17.9 kernel when booted to 12.4 but can't using chroot 
as described in "Entering the Chroot Environment."  I tried my .config 
from LFS 12.4 and one generated using "make defconfig" with the same 
result.

I did make a significant system change as I replaced my HD with an SSD 
since I built LFS/BLFS 12.4.  That seems to have gone smoothly as, after 
restoring my 12.4 HD image, I can boot to and run LFS/BLFS without 
incident.  I'm sending this using BLFS 12.4 on my SSD.  Other than 
changing to an SSD I did nothing different in building r12.4-47 to my 
knowledge.

This was a manual build and fsck reports the partition is clean.
