I copied my 12.4 kernel and /lib/modules/6.16.1 to the 12.4-47 partition 
and booted to that partition without issue.  I then successfully 
compiled the 12.4-47 linux-6.17.9 kernel and booted to that kernel.

So I accomplished my goal of building LFS 12.4-47 but had to jump 
through a hoop.  I've looked upside down and backwards but still don't 
understand why I couldn't compile a kernel after finishing chapter 9.  
If my problem make sense after this further information I'd be 
interested.  Worse case scenario, I'll see if the problem recurs with 
the March release.
