Hi,
  The 5637 looks like a serial modem and does the Hayes instruction set. 
The normal KDE programs set it up and dial... my heart goes out to you 
with a dial up line. My heart goes out at 24,000 bits per second, which 
takes a while, especially when there are other things using bandwidth.
