Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately all it tells me is:
# iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Function not implemented
The card I am using is SMC2532W-B, and cardmgr loads prism2_cs when I plug
it in.
Could it believe that the scan is not implemented because there is something
funky about my computer? I find that the red hat startup scripts seem to
trip up a lot of packages that I install.
Based on the clue that the magic word is "scan", I found that there is a
function in the driver named prism2mgmt_scan(), but I don't know enough
about the context to understand what it is doing or how it gets called.
Some of the names look similar to the names in the list given by
"wlanctl-ng commands".
I suspect that if you know proper values for the parameters to
"wlanctl-ng wlan0 dot11req_scan ...", you can use it to force a scan, then
"wlanctl-ng wlan0 dot11req_scan_results bssindex=0", "... bssindex=1", etc
to extract the results.
I also found "WLAN_SCAN=n" in /etc/wlan/wlan.conf, but changing it to
WLAN_SCAN=y doesn't seem to have any effect on the system behaviour.
I'm not sure if this is significant -- comments near the end of the file
imply that the default configuration will associate with any network in
range, but my system does not actually do that. After plugging in the
card, I
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_autojoin authtype=opensystem ssid="XXXX"
dhclient wlan0
Any further suggestions?
