malformed module?

I recently did an upgrade on my debian 3.1 box and built a new kernel.
When I try to reinstall the linux-wlan-ng drivers for my WUSB11 v2.5
nic however, although I get no error messages in the install, doing a
modprobe prism2_usb gives me a failure error message about "malformed
module" -- anyone know what that's about? I was using
linux-wlan-ng-2.3 for quite awhile, now have even upgraded to the
debian package of 2.4, but both give the same error.
