User mode configuration?

I have a laptop running SuSE10.0. I'm trying to set my laptop up so that
a friend can use it with her own account. I doubt it's relevant, but
I'll mention anyways: For stability reasons, I have to delay the
bringing up of the wireless interface until after the netdaemon is
started (I simply added "ifup eth0" to /etc/rc.d/netdaemon).

Note that I do have my wireless interface set for user control, and
kinternet is able to manipulate the wireless connection in user mode.
I'm trying to do something a little less manual though.

The access point that I USUALLY connect to is secured, and thus is not
connected to automatically. I don't want to hard code the essid and key
in the setup because the laptop is mobile and I do wish to retain the
auto-connect feature by default. My workaround was planned to make a
small script with the line "iwconfig eth0 essid WAPxxxxxxx key
xxxxxxxxxx [1]" Well, of course, it works as root a/o sudo, but I want
this to work in user mode, which doesn't; instead I get this.

What else could I do to accomplish what I'm after (connect with a click
or auto only when this AP is present) without making her memorize the
kinternet sequence and key or giving her the root password?
