: Hello,
:
: I'm looking to sent a letter to our software vendors, asking them to
: snap to supporting a version of the LSB, as opposed to a version of
: a particular Linux distrobution.
:
: Any recomendations? Any samples?

Vendors need specific information about how to build software that
conforms to the LSB. The spec itself is not enough; a clear, precise,
HOWTO-type document is needed. If additional software is
necessary---an LSB build environment, for example---then it should be
easily available in one spot, with clear instructions on how to install
and use it.

Additionally, a concise explanation of what kinds of software could or
could not be made to conform to the LSB is needed: ISVs who make
drivers, KDE or GNOME programs, or software that uses Python or Java
may not be able to make their software conform to the LSB without
a large amount of additional effort (e.g., supplying LSB-compatible KDE
or GNOME libraries or a complete Python interpreter along with the
product).

It's my opinion that you'll get more mileage out of helping vendors to
become LSB-conformant rather than merely asking them to....

Cheers.
