lsbsi call summary 28-Jan-03

Summary of topics:

1. kernel moving to 2.4.19 to keep up a bit
with current upstream (2.4.20 is current on
the 2.4 branch, but questions were raised
about its' quality)

2. ppc kernel patch is being dropped, it wasn't
being applied anyway (bootstrap kernel xml
didn't have correct condition code, and phase4 
kernel xml didn't apply the patch), and apparently
isn't needed for 2.4.19

3. kernel will not be build in phase 4b.  Phase
4b (bootable) isn't used at the moment, the kernel
build is easy enough to restore if needed (just 
uncomment).  It's suspected that a user of phase 
4b would have to supply their own kernel anyway, 
to match the target hardware, so this may never be 
useful as a "default build".

4. an inetd.conf has been added to the phase 4's.

The above changes are already implemented.

The remaining questions about the lsbsi are:

1. add an ftpd, so that data can be gotten into
the lsbsi?  

-- the call decided to instead look at building some
useful apps in the appbat, such as ssh and an ftpd, 
and having those available to install in the lsbsi 
if needed. Note: these are NOT added to the 1.3 required
appbat list, but building will be explored when
time permits.

2. network configuration needs to be added to
the lsbsi-uml setup scripts.

3. the uml build needs to be tested on a few other
configurations, and a .deb needs to be produced.

-- Stuart will work on the .deb, as time permits

4. Also build lsblibchk as an lsb-conforming app so
it can be installed in the lsbsi as part of
qualification testing?

-- switch over lsblibchk to be lsb-conforming, but
defer doing this formally until the server switchovers, 
new build machines, etc. are complere.  For now, if 
needed, can hand-build a binary with "CC=lsbcc" - 
Stuart affirms that this works now.

Pending completion of (2) and (3), rebuilds on
all three architectures, and testing to make sure
that nothing has regressed, the 1.3 lsbsi looks
ready to release - this puts it approximately
one week away.
