Sample Implementation and Application Battery Status

  Week of May 19, 2003

       1. Regular conference calls were held May 20 and May 22.

Note: ostensibly, the Tuesday call is for the Sample
Implementation and the Thursday call for the Application
Battery. In practice, if the "regular suspects" are the only
ones in attendance, both calls tend to cover both topics as
well as lsbdev topics, since all three seem to tie together.

       2. Both meetings the week of May 26 are cancelled

       3. A round of header file changes triggered by s390 needs left
the
appbat unable to build. The problems were in the interaction
of
          signal.h and ucontext.h - signal.h includes ucontext.h which
uses
elements defined in signal.h .... this was still being sorted
at
          the time of this writing.

       4. Mats and Marvin ran the latest devchk and libchk on non-ia32
platforms, which led to some changes in the database: symbol
versions, structure sizes and elements, etc. These are "almost
          there".

       5. Since the next deliverable is to spin new appbat packages
which are
"reproducible", the lsbdev packages need to be released. The
above
changes have an effect on the stub libraries and headers, and
are
part of the beta testing process (1.3.1 lsbdev packages are in
the
beta tree, with these changes a new beta spin is needed).

       6. lsbdev-c++ also needs to be moved towards released status.
Currently it is in "snapshot" state for a few platforms, needs
to
move to beta at least for ia32, ia64 and ppc32.

       7. The lsbsi for ppc32 received some additional testing and
analysis.
It appears that some problems detected earlier were due to
faulty
setup. A set of failures in exec cases was traced to a semop
issue,
a patch is to be supplied by IBM and a rebuild and retest
should
take place next week. The ppc kernel also lacks support for
the
*context routines, this has been a GPL-assignment issue,
supposedly
now approved. There are a small number of additional problems
still
          being tracked.

       8. A call went out to determine the correct base glibc symbol
versions
for new platforms. Several of these don't have a full symbol
version set yet. However, defer working too much on this so it
doesn't block releasing lsbdev and appbat for the three
certification platforms, after the experience noted above
(s390
          changes broke other builds).

       9. The lsbsi for s390 is blocked on a bootstrap-phase gcc build
problem. Eliuth was unvailable for much of the week.

    --------------------------------------------------------------

The following are the 45 known internationalization failures in the
LSB-si running the 1.3.x test suites. They haven't ended up
documented
anywhere yet to date. They show non compliance in the upstream
packages
diffutils (1), grep (3), gettext (1) and textutils (40). There are
patches for all of these on the li18nux website, although not always
for
the same version the lsbsi is using.
