We very much recognize that absence of tests is what makes it hard to figure
out what to do here. There are multiple bugs on these, bug 7 asks for the
tests, bug 43 asks for a clarification on where install_initd is to be found
(answered), bug 244 points out we don't have a sample implementation (which
would be delivered in /the/ Sample Implementation, and bug 245 points out that
the application battery, which could at least provide a "touch test" for this
functionality, does not. It's so bad that we think there have been certified
systems (perhaps only at LSB 1.2) that didn't even provide the commands, but no
indicator actually detected that.
I was going to propose that we develop the tests in "the formal way" but using
a wiki page to do it collaboratively, because we want a good example of how
this works anyway. That is, write the assertions, review them, code the tests
to the assertions, along the way find out if it even makes sense to write a set
of assertions to the spec as written. If there's something closer than
starting this from scratch, then by all means proceed, or if Tobias wants to
use that forum for building these things, great. If this is of interest, I'll
make the page and add the link here.
