It was noted further research is needed. I confirmed in an experiment what
Tobias reported: alien does recognize and preserve the config-file attribute.
Work has happened on adding the file-format support (bug 879).  So the question
on THIS bug  is just: do we need to say anything about this in the LSB spec, or
do we remain silent on details of construction of packages?
