Interesting. Can you provide a complete list?
for i in `rpm -qa | sort`; do arch=`rpm -q --queryformat %{ARCH} ${i}`;
if [ "${arch}" = "x86_64" ]; then echo $i; fi; done
FYI: In the bottom layer of Mandrakes x86_64 some of the packages
contain both i586 and x86_64 libs (glibc, popt, zlib to name a few).
I'm wondering how many of those you have in there...

Interesting. Would it be possible to keep running i586 perl only? Or did
something force you to upgrade to x86_64 perl?
This is all very similar to what I'm seeing on my sparc(64) box. 64bit
kernel, and then a near 100% userland:
$ for i in `rpm -qa | sort`; do arch=`rpm -q --queryformat %{ARCH}
${i}`; if [ "${arch}" = "sparc64" ]; then echo $i; fi; done

I think I pointed out an other alternative... One that can't be
influenced by Mandrake politics & powerplay.
