I just want to add I experience the same thing except ATIIXP IDE chipset
was not compiled in kernel; thus, hard drive is running with dma 0. I have
to use Svetoslav Slavtchev src.rpm from ftp://mandrake.contactel.cz/people/svetljo/mandrake/kernel/tmp/kernel-multimedia-2.6.10-3.mm.28mdk-1-1mdk.nosrc.rpm
to have dma enable.

CentOS 4.0 also has this chipset disable so I guess there is some stability
issue which I've experienced none so far. This is a MSI board for amd64
3200+.
