What's people think about kernel enabled usblp and CUPS?

Now it enabled in kernel as module, but when i see in another distro
(such https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/CUPS#Blacklisting_usblp) is
needing deprecate and using own usb CUPS backend. Need we some udev
rules for works with printer still needing it (for example to upload
firmware)? I have a modern HP printer and it's works with network and
not need this, but may be other people still.
