Hi Len, 
 
I have had all sorts of fun over the last couple of years with dvb.   
Plenty of stuff just hasn't worked (which I think you have discovered 
too). 
 
My first success was with kaffeine.  But then after updating Mandriva 
that, for some reason, stopped working.  After a lot more searching and 
playing around I have since discovered Me-TV which has done the trick 
for me.  You may want to give it a try:
