I had multiple install failures trying to installing Ububtu. It was
solved by *thoroughly* cleaning the drive. Interestingly, that same
drive was producing VERIFIED CDs/DVDs routinely, and, in fact,
produced the verified CD used to install Ubuntu. It seems that there
is something quite finicky about installs.
