Eject the dvd in the drive and put it in again.  This is a problem with
HAL or udev or something.  You may need to kill k3b, put a  dvd in the
drive, and select burn using k3b when the pop-up announces that a dvd has
been found.

Or, you can mount the drive manually, and tell k3b where to find the dvd.
