2011 instalation question

Thank you for reading this.

I now have a working installation disc but I have a small problem. Mandriva 
wants to start in a screen resolution that does not match my system.

I've experimented with the vga option (vge=788) and the the systems starts to 
load but switches back to some odd screen resolution.

My laptop's resolution is 1280 x 768. 

I've read the release notes and a Google search has not helped at all.
