Problem mit externer Festplatte

Hallo Liste,

ich habe mir gerade eine externe Festplatte (bei ALDI) gekauft und unter 
firewire angeschlossen.
Unter Windows funktioniert alles bestens. Ich habe 2 NTSF-Partionen und 3 
ext3-Partitionen eingerichtet. Unter MKS 10.1 kann ich diese externe 
Festplatte nicht einbinden/sehen.
Muß die Festplatte bereits beim booten eingeschaltet sein? Was eigentlich 
keinen Sinn macht, da die externe Platte nur bei Bedarf (z.B. Backup) 
zugeschaltet erden soll.

Was mache ich Falsch?
