Maryse,

Rather than abandoning Mandriva - which would be a great shame, as 
you've already paid for it - have you considered simply abandoning 
KDE? There are plenty of alternatives you could try instead.

I've used Xfce since (I think) Mandrake 9.2 - it isn't an option 
offered at installation time, has to be downloaded afterwards, so I 
opt for Gnome at installation and use that until I've downloaded & 
installed all updates and all the packages needed for Xfce.

As you are limited with your downloading, perhaps my method 
(installing Xfce from scratch) will not be suitable for you, but you 
might try installing with Gnome rather than KDE, and actually USING 
Gnome!
