That was the case for me up to 2008.1 but according to the release notes 
for 2009.1 nVidia has not released anything compiled against the latest 
Xorg so the latest Mandrivas have to fall back on the 61xx driver.  
MyDell laptop (1920x1200) refused to give me anything but 1024x768 on 
the 2009.1 install.  Advice from the Expert list helped me to get back 
to 1920x1200 at the expense of losing extended GPU capabilities, which I 
take to mean poorer rendering capabilities.  Have not investigated that 
in any depth yet but glxgears dropped from a frame rate of around 17000 
to 700 between 2008.1 and 2009.1.  I know that glxgears is not a 
benchmark but the result is a bit alarming.  DVDs still play at normal 
speed but I have not tried GoogleEarth yet.  I have a similar Dell 
desktop setup and am hesitating about installing 2009.1 because of the 
graphics problem.  The nVidia site does not even feature x86_64 drivers 
now AFAICT, only IA64.  Those might be up-to-date wrt Xorg.
