Problems updating to 2010

I have some old hardware which I have found useful to keep running:  An HP Vectra, 800 MHz processor and 256 MB RAM.  Pretty anemic by current standards, but it works OK for checking e-mail, reading news and as a back up workstation. At this time I have Mandriva 2007.1 installed and everything works fine.  However, the program is no longer being supported/updated, so I would like to switch to something newer.  Here is problem number one: The machine does not have a DVD drive, only CD.  In 2007 you could get Mandriva on multiple CDs, but no more.

So, I tried Mandriva 2010 One, and had no luck.  It goes through the motions until a screen that says: "Starting Configuration Manager".  After that the screen goes dark and the machine becomes unresponsive.  At that point cutting the power appears to be the only way forward.

How do I get updated from the 2007.1 program?
