Thanks for the replies.  Yes.. a fresh install was really what I had in mind.  Getting from 2007.1 to 2010 is what I meant to say.

But install what exactly?  Remember the machine only accepts CDs, and the only CD with 2010 on it crashes when I try to run it.  As I understand it, the "One" issue contains a bootable system with an option to install it.

As far as back-up goes, I am not too worried.  With a clean install you can usually leave the /home directory alone.  But failing that, there is nothing there that I can not get by without.

I suppose installing via the ethernet is possible - I am networked  with my main machine which runs 2009.1 PowerPack, but it does not look easy.

As for changing the repositories to 2010, that sounds scary to me.  Would I not end up with a dog's breakfast of incompatible programs, libraries etc?
