Well I understand your frustration, I too am running mandriva x86_64 version
and have had problems also. One is it no longer informs me of new updates
and I have to do it from the control panel.

One of the things I did was in the control panel remove all the sources and
redo them. I also added the "plf" sources and everything seems to be running
reasonably well except for what I mentioned above.

Can you not uncheck the source you want to get rid of? If you have not been
able to do any upgrades you are missing some "rpm" updates which made mine
run better.
