Thanks, ed for this suggestion. I have looked at resolv.conf and it tells me not to edit it. All it contains is the two dns addresses that I put in when setting up my wireless network for the router and internet access. I have no idea how I might get the system to look at things in a different order. Suggestions welcomed; I am ignorant but am not afraid to tinker and if it all goes wrong I could try installing 2010 again. I have a separate /home partition and backups so will not lose much if all goes seriously pear shaped.
