CD or DVD menus, how to...

k3b will let you burn CDs and DVDs with as many .avi video files on as you can find room for, but without some kind of menu structure, navigating to and  selecting one of the file sis not easy.  

It would be nice if k3b could also provide a menu, so that one could see at a glance what is on the disk, and then pick the one file you want to watch. 

Is that possible?  Or is there a stand-alone piece of software, one can use?

I found a program called DeVeDe, which will provide quite an elaborate menu structure, but it also wants to convert your files to mpg, in other words produce a full blown proper DVD. It is a very slow process, and I would prefer to stay with the .avi format which plays quite well on my DVD player and takes up a lot less disk space.

Any suggestions?
