In fact, Powerpack does not automatically upgrade.  I subscribe and
download 2 powerpacks per year and boot from the powerpack DVD and pick
"Upgrade" and it works well.

But since Powerpack is NOT free, the upgrade does not occur automatically
over the internet.

My experience with Ubuntu is that waiting 60 days after the latest is
announced is the better way to upgrade, unless you like software with
warts.  That user feedback from the wart-lovers is essential to debugging
Ubuntu.  Mandriva PowerPack is generally a little more polished, so tis
Kubuntu on my desktop and Mandriva on my "heavy" Notebook, and Meego on my
netbook.  The "heavy" notebook has an 18.4" screen.
