I've already got two drives, one for /var and the other for /root and so
forth. DD sounds like it would work for what I want which is just a
weekly backup of my drive(s). Currently I'm using backerupper and just
backing up certain files though I'm pretty sure it's not backing up
symlinks. I'll give it a try when I get the drive.
