My 2009.0 machine has mplayer-1.0-1.rc2.23.r28387.1plf2009.0 from plf
backports installed. It prints a message that it cannot open lirc
support, I don't have lirc hardware. That means lirc support is
compiled in there. Please try with that mplayer as well.
