interestingly i've found that logged on as root i can use naat-console though 
i haven't tried using it to edit the rules. the entry:
 [warn] RSA server certificate CommonName (CN) `localhost.6qa94a' does NOT 
match server name!?
appears on jun1 then jun 11 and then today, i don't know if i tried to access 
the firewall box on those days but i installed on may18 and configured most 
if not all of its current rules shortly after that with no problems using the 
web interface
