[Security Firewall] no buffer space message

i just got this message when logging directly onto the firewall machine:
[root@sherlock]# ping 194.168.4.100
connect: No buffer space available

i did 'service -R'
and i saw lots of messages about messages being suppressed and the being a 
'dst cache overflow'
i did a reboot and the net connection came back and i saw no more of those 
messages, can someonw explain what they are?
ok i just did a google and found that this is related to the routing table but 
no clear indication if what might be causing it
