Yes, I realise that - I've met it before.  Each time I tried, I changed more 
words on the off-chance that they were causing problems, but to no avail.  
The last one was headed 'Big problems' and the body said

True, my ISP had added a footer, but I don't think Doug's messages carried 
any footer or sig lines, so I'm inclined to think that it wasn't that.

Maybe, but I think it is a Mandriva issue.
