I seem to recall having a problem installing this kernel wherein the 
initrd was not generated.  I believe I generated it myself and am 
running it ATM but I wonder if this glitch occurred during your 
installation, also, perhaps causing a disconnect with urpme.  I don't 
know whether uninstall scripts are invoked by urpme.  How about adding a 
couple of -vv to the remove command?  Does rpm -e do any differently?  
Do you have an initrd of this version in /boot?
