After many battles with the speed of the tape backup - I gave up :( AFAICT the problem is simply that it's not possible to get an LTO drive to stream if you are creating the files to write to the tape at the same time as writing the tape. Your need to be MANY megabytes ahead with multithreaded/multiprocess creation of the datastream that's written to the buffer. So sad to say I'm looking for another solution.
