Why ? Can't you directly use the -U option of mondoarchive ?

Yes, but the recommended approach is to use -U
The other method is a workaround, if you did on CD and then later change your mind, and may require more work (I have not tested that recently myself).

I can't comment on your restore itself as the log is truncated, and doesn't provide anyuseful info.
