Humm. It's only recommended on Debian, so shouldn't be mandatory.

Nothing :-( it may be on my side.

Could you run on your system the follwoing command:

cdrecord -scanbus
If it doesn't work do
modprobe sg
and try it again. 
If that work, then try again mondorestore.

Please report results of all steps.
