I got to the original box to check if MPT drivers are included in initramfs.

Seems they are included (I am a bit lost at this moment with this stuff). If
so, what else can I test?

If you changed of HW, you need to have the right drivers in your
initrd/initramfs.
for that you probably need to force load them  at backup time.
Cf: http://www.mondorescue.org/docs/p2v.pdf to have an idea (P2P is similar
to this one
